World Watercolor Month - Day 14 - New Moon

Welcome to Day 14 of World Watercolor Month. Congratulations on completing two weeks of daily challenges, artists! Yesterday, we got into flow with a repeating ribbon pattern. Today, we are leaning into illustration and celebrating the new moon with a crescent moon design.

You can use a circular shaped object (jar, plate, coaster, etc) to get your initial outer edge tracing of the moon with a pencil. You can freehand the crescent moon from there. If you want a golden moon, use a light wash of yellow ochre. If you want a blue/silver moon, use a light wash of cobalt blue. Stipple in color to create the illusion of craters/texture. Allow to dry. If you want a shimmering effect, layer metallic gold watercolor over the yellow ochre or metallic silver over the cobalt blue. From there, you can loosely paint in your florals.
