World Watercolor Month - Day 16 - Quilted Landscape

Welcome to Day 16 of World Watercolor Month, friends! I am cannot wait to see your mood monsters from yesterday's exercise. Don't forget to share on socials and tag me (@sarahruthfrey)! Today, we are combining a few of our past exercises into one to create a detailed quilted landscape illustration. Pull from your mountain range, your mark making, abstract mosaic, and flowing lines practice for this one!

Start by sketching in a few rolling hills that overlap. Then paint a wash over color in each distinct area, mixing up the hues and values. Once dry, paint in repeating patterns in each area (dots, little lines, flowers, dashes, etc). Refer to the videos below for guidance.
