You made it to the end of Week 1, baby! Congratulations! I hope yesterday's butterfly blobs brought some joy to your day and that you let yourself try some funky patterns. Today, we are sticking with just one color and playing with value.
Value is the relative lightness or darkness of a color. Often in beginner watercolor workshops, teachers will have students paint value scales. I find that to be dreadfully boring. So instead, we are taking inspiration from Miss Emma Jane and painting a layered mountain scene with one color in a variety of values. Check out examples & video references below, as well as today's journal questions and mantras!
Start with a very light wash of color for your sky, then add just a touch more pigment to your paint mixture and paint in your tallest mountains, leaving some sky visible. Add even more pigment to your palette and just below your mountain range, paint another set of mountains, creating a third distinct layer. Continue this pattern until you've reached your desired landscape. Use the Pinterest board for inspiration or follow the video tutorials below.
Days 8-14 will be uploaded by midnight on Tuesday, July 7th.
Journal Prompt:
How have I transformed this year?
What has made me more resilient?
Mantra:
There is no path until I walk it.
