World Watercolor Month - Day 5 - Solstice Sun

Happy SUNday, friends! Yesterday's book nook is an illustration practice that I have done SO MANY TIMES. I can't get enough of it. I love the color and character you can create with such simple brushstrokes. I hope you embraced the exercise and fell in love with your book nook, too!

Today, we are lightening things up a bit with a solstice-themed design. I recently taught a "Midsummer Magic" workshop, and I knew I had to incorporate the sun illustration in our World Watercolor Month somehow. Check out examples & video references below, as well as today's journal prompts and mantras.

To create a sun, first we must define a circle shape. You can use virtually any round object to trace your circle with pencil first, like the bottom of your water jar, a cup lid, saucer, bottlecap, etc. From there, you can paint in your circle with golden hues and create whimsical rays of sunshine in whatever style suits your mood today! Once your sun is dry, you can draw in a face, if desired.

Journal Prompt:

What brightens my life?

How can I brighten someone else’s?

Mantra:

I choose to be a source of light.

I radiate joy.
