World Watercolor Month - Day 18 - Negative Painting

Welcome to Day 18 of World Watercolor Month, friends! I know yesterday's sky was a simple composition, but I hope you enjoyed the various techniques you learned! Today, we are exploring negative painting. We painted around our subject to define it. This is a technique most often used for objects that we want to remain essentially white.

Start by sketching in your subject. I chose examples with white daisies, but you can do anything you'd like! You can even print or trace an outline, if needed. Once you have a rough sketch in place, start painting in the background around your subject. Then, slowly build pale shadows within your subject. I highly recommend watching the video references to fully grasp this technique.
