ABOUT SARAH

Sarah Ruth Frey (b. 1995) is a self taught American artist living in Kansas City.

After graduating from the University of Missouri - Columbia with her Bachelor's of Journalism in Strategic Communication, Sarah spent five years working as a creative in the catering industry. In 2023, she transitioned out of her full-time position to pursue freelance work - and thus, the creative studio was born.

A pair of paintings for Mother’s Day 🌸

It is always an honor to bring a client’s idea to life, especially when there are so many meaningful details to weave in. These pieces honor the women they were gifted to, the loved ones they’ve lost, and the family still in bloom. 🕊️💐

✨WORKSHOP DROP✨ May classes are here! We’ve got a lineup of new themes & venues, in addition to all-time faves ♥️

We are kicking things off with Mini Masterpieces next Wednesday at Moderne Loft, where we’ll cover watercolor basics and create petite paintings for vintage-inspired gold frames & lil bookmarks.

Then, we’re really mixing things up for World Cocktail Day on May 13th at Genevieve’s! We will paint three cocktail cards and enjoy themed pairings, including aperol spritzes, gin lavender lemonades, and espresso martinis!🍸🎨 Cannot emphasize enough how stoked I am for this one!

May 17th at Monstera’s, we’re painting bookish illustrations & cutie lil bookmarks.

May 21st at The Littlest Library, we’re celebrating International Tea Day with themed illustrations and treats.

May 23rd at the OP Arboretum, the poppies & peonies will be in bloom and we’ll be painting themes pieces for the season. (Only a couple spots left)

Finally, we’re introducing a new venue on May 27th - Southmoreland on the Plaza! Join us for Wildflower Watercolor on the patio! (Only a couple spots left)

💛 Meet Mariah! 💛 Mariah Mochon is the face and heart behind Mental Health in a Box and The Moderne loft. She curates monthly self care boxes and weekly self care events at her beautiful venue in the Crossroads. Mariah is a ball of sunshine and an absolute force. I am so honored to share that we will be hosting monthly themed watercolor workshops together on first Wednesdays!

We are kicking things off with Wildflowers this Wednesday 6-8PM. My first workshop in KC proper and the largest venue I’ve had the privilege to teach in! We still have a few spots open, and I would absolutely love to fill this one up with your help ☺️🌸

We’ll paint spring florals, sip sangria, snack a little, and forget about everything else for a couple hours. This is a night for self-care, connection, and creativity 🌼✨

Funds raised at Stems benefit the Arts & Rec Foundation of Overland Park, which supports the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead, and public art initiatives! The event takes place while the gardens are in full bloom and includes sips & samples from top local restaurants, live music, entertainers, art exhibits, and more ♥️

FBF to my first workshop at Monstera’s last summer! Teaching, while surrounded by books and plants with natural light pouring in, will never get old. So excited to finally be back in this space for our upcoming Palentine’s Paint & Sip on February 15th!!

In late August, the shop unfortunately had to close for restoration after a fire in the building caused severe smoke and water damage and with that, our workshops were put on pause. After months of work, they were finally able to reopen just in time for the holidays. And I have to say, they are lookin’ better than ever, friends! I am so proud of their resilience and their dedication to this little community.

I have classes planned every month here through the end of the year just for you! I cannot wait to kick things off together in just a few weeks! 💗

I am so grateful to have my work in another Downtown Overland Park spot! When we said goodbye to The Old Mango last Spring, I no longer had a home for my full range of retail offerings in OP. My display at Ink & Page feels like coming home!

I’m so honored to share that I was selected to be a featured artist for the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens’ annual gala, Stems: A Garden Soiree 🌸 One of just 8 local artists invited to hand-paint 200 wine glasses (each!) that guests will use and take home as a keepsake from the night.

Stems is an evening of celebrating art, community, and the gardens in full bloom. In previous years, I have participated in the featured exhibit as a plein air artist, which I hope to do again as well. Truly grateful to be any part of such a special event!

For my first workshop of the year, we’re leaning fully into that practice with relaxing, meditative patterns that help build skill and create space to breathe.

No pressure. Gentle guidance. A moment to honor the quiet of winter.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed or burnt out, this class is for you. It’s less about perfect technique and more about mental rest.

You’ll take home:
- (2) 5x7 illustrations
- (1) 5x5” round illustration
- Paint dot card + detail brush
- Pattern prompt sheet & printed meditation for at-home practice

Hi friends! I can’t believe we’re already a third of the way through January. Before the days get away from me, I want to share that my work is on view at Whistle Stop Coffee (Downtown Lees Summit) this month ☕️

It’s a beautiful feeling seeing my work be the background as people gather and go about their daily rituals. If you stop by, I’d love to know!

All works are available for purchase. Simply scan the QR code on the title tag below the painting. If needed, please ask staff for help taking the piece down for you.

Miss Tiffany took a timelapse of our Yule watercolor workshop last night and seeing my lil red sweater buzz laps around the room made me smile! Even though I bring my TV to workshops to show my lesson on a larger screen, I also try my best to work the room, answering questions and demonstrating up close so everyone feels like an active participant rather than an audience member. This past year of teaching has taught me so much, and I’m genuinely excited to keep learning and leveling up these workshops alongside you all! 👩🏻‍🎨✨
